SOLO GALLERY
WAAM presents a solo exhibition of work by the artist, Ransome, whose paintings, drawings, and sculptures focus on images that center on his African-American lineage, traced to sharecroppers of the American South who migrated to northern cities along the east coast.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ransome was born in North Carolina and moved to a New Jersey suburb as a teenager. He graduated from Pratt Institute and was a tenured professor in the School of Visual Performing Arts at Syracuse University before retiring to pursue his career as a studio artist. He received his MFA in Studio Arts from Lesley University. Ransome’s works have been included in group exhibitions at The Sigal Museum Easton, PA, The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) Museum of Art in Winston-Salem, NC and Katonah Museum’s International Juried Biennial in New York. His work was included in the 2023 Center for Maine Contemporary Art Biennial exhibition and the Visual Art Center of New Jersey’s exhibit “Claiming the Narrative” in 2022, as well as the University of New Hampshire Museum of Art new series, SINGULAR. He has had several solo exhibitions at venues including Sage College’s Opalka Gallery in Albany, NY; Alpha Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts; and DAG Gallery + Studios at Golden Belt. Ransome is a 2022 Pollock- Krasner foundation grantee, and was awarded the Hudson Valley Artist Purchase Award from the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz, New York. He also had a residency in the spring of 2023 at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC and will have a residency in Key West in 2024.
