“I am a visual artist and create paintings, collages, assemblages and, more recently, installations. My work explores time and the passage of time. In this context, I am creating a record of my life’s journey. Often, my images are an attempt to express a single transformative event or moment. Sometimes, my work reflects a sense of awe in the face of nature’s immensity and timelessness. I am very interested in the therapeutic value of art and, for many years, worked as an art teacher at The Children’s Village, a residential facility for disadvantaged boys in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. I have been inspired by my students’ ability to express unarticulated feelings, unrecognized memories and their life stories through art. In addition, I have been, for a number of years, a teaching artist for ArtsWestchester. I have an academic art background with a BFA from Boston University and an MFA in printmaking from S.U.N.Y. New Paltz. I have shown my work widely in the Hudson Valley. Currently, I am working with the exhibition committee of the Olive Free Library in West Shokan and have curated several exhibitions at the venue.” – Kathy Yacoe Skura
