ARTISTS STATEMENT
Len Jenkin is a self-taught artist, who’s also a playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. His art is influenced by a life in storytelling, stage design, and directing. The paintings are mysterious narratives, the stories hidden and obvious at once. They often include language as well as images. He is a painter of internal landscapes, of the imagination, and of the American scene.
Recent solo shows were at Chashama Exhibition Space; Wild Project Gallery in NYC; Chocolate Factory in Long Island City; Coney Island USA Annex for the Arts; Yalo Gallery in Water Valley, Mississippi; Undermain Theater Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
Four paintings by Len Jenkin were recently in the year-long Mystery Show at the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Baltimore Maryland. He also has two paintings in their permanent collection.
His plays have been done all over the United States, as well as in England, France, Germany, Denmark, and Japan. His most recent international production was in Beijing (PORT TWILIGHT, 2015), and U.S. production in Dallas, Texas (HOW IS IT THAT WE LIVE or SHAKEY JAKE + ALICE, 2018).
His novels have been published by Sun & Moon Press and Green Integer Press in Los Angeles.
2019 Solo Shows were selected by juror Anastasia James, Associate Curator at the Lucas Museum of Art and Former Curator of Exhibitions and Programs, Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, SUNY New Paltz.
