Introduced in 2017, the FOCUS series features the work of ten artists in a theme-based exhibition. Selections are curated by a different juror for each exhibition with each artist represented by multiple examples of their work in service to the particular show’s theme.

What is a landscape in 2018? The answer to this question is provided by 10 of the best artists of the Radius 50 region each showing multiple works in the second of three FOCUS shows presented at WAAM this year. Gallery visitors should expect to be surprised, challenged, and perhaps even provoked to rethinking their concepts of this familiar genre which in this exhibition may appear in unfamiliar guises. Then again there may be some landscapes here that look just like you’d expect, with beautiful recognizable imagery from the region we know and love. The juror Thomas Sarrantonio is himself one the most accomplished painters in this genre, as well as a professor of painting at SUNY New Paltz.
