FOCUS: Lay of the Land, Art Inspired by Nature will bring together 10 artists, each exhibiting multiple works representing distinctly individual views of what art based on contemplation of the natural world is now. Landscape art has a rich tradition in our region dating back to the early days of the Hudson River School. In our era, issues such as global warming, the protection of natural beauty in the context of global business expansion, and new views of the place of human beings in the natural order have impacted artists views. Many of today’s artists have adopted new forms of art making, while others have continued with traditional methods of expression. Lay of the Land will give artists from our region an opportunity to exhibit their unique approaches to art inspired by nature both as manifestation of beauty and the sometimes troubling realities of today’s world.
