WAAM CAMP 2024

Woodstock Artists Association & Museum Summer Art Camp, or WAAM CAMP, is back for a second year! Join us for a half day, week-long arts experience led by WAAM’s Education Director, Tara Foley. This year’s camp has some very special guests including local artist, educator and children’s book illustrator, David Goldin; WAAM exhibiting solo artist (June-August) Kathy Greenwood; WAAM Member, artist Suzanne Parker with a workshop on paper marbling; and a special project from artist and WAAM Member, Xiaoping Yao using paper that she will bring back from a visit to China.

WAAM CAMP offers two consecutive weeks of camp, each tailored to a different age group. WAAM CAMP young artists will explore the Museum’s galleries during special “gallery time” by engaging in dialogue and deep looking. Participants will also discover new ways of making art, all while building friendships along the way. Young artists will work half the day inside WAAM’s YES Gallery and half the day outdoors in WAAM’s backyard space. The theme of this year’s camp will be “bringing the outdoors in.” We will make sculptures outside based on forms in nature and learn how to display them as art pieces inside the gallery, taking inspiration from local flowers and mushrooms. We will learn from Kathy Greenwood about her woven textile pieces that will be on display in the solo gallery at the time of camp and make our own textile pieces utilizing upcycled fabrics. We will also utilize our creative imagination during a drawing workshop with David Goldin focusing on character design. Each day the campers will make art and directly put it on display in the YES Gallery. The last day of camp will culminate with a display of artworks in the YES Gallery for parents and guardians to enjoy!
