In just a year, with the closing down of museums and galleries, the pandemic has caused the art world to dramatically pivot to presenting and marketing visual art online. This shift has made it critical for artists to know the best and most effective way to prepare their careers for the eventual reopening of galleries and museums. Some traditional “pre-pandemic” techniques are still important but the internet has recently provided a host of new approaches and tools. Katharine T. Carter & Associates uses this hybrid approach. For over 36 years, KTC has developed artists’ careers through museum and gallery placement, art presentation consultation and providing professional written support materials. In 2020, KTC launched Cross Contemporary Partners (CCP), a digital marketing division, that curates and presents artists’ work in virtual 3-D galleries and markets these digital installations to museums and galleries across the country. Based on the book by Katharine Carter, “Accelerating on the Curves: The Artist’s Roadmap to Success”, CCP Director Jen Dragon will detail the process for building an exhibition record, and the best approaches to self-marketing and digital presentation of artwork.
