ARTISTS STATEMENT
The constructions I am making are analog, unmediated, using materials that are handled and put together without mystery or coding. The pieces reveal themselves; they are transparent in their making and rougher than they first appear. At a time when information is both ever present and insufficient, their offering of information is minimal, tied to the day to day of objects and situations. They seem familiar but are not easily placed. These works are in a constant state of doing and undoing, building up and taking apart. Hovering between 2 and three dimensions, there are questions of structure versus surface. Does the drawing determine the structure or does the structure determine the drawing on top? It has taken me time to realize that I am interested in the simultaneous presence of stillness and energy; stillness that comes with the heightened perception of looking, and energy that is contained without expressive gesture, but within the sometimes awkward relationship of one thing to another.
