Through painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video, digital, and mixed media, Sanctuary invites artists and audiences alike to reflect on what makes a place, or a fleeting moment, feel protected, sacred, or healing. Whether expressed through landscape, home, memory, gesture, or an inner state of being, this exhibition affirms the creative process itself as a form of sanctuary. For Mercado, who has spent over 25 years immersed in art and design as an interior designer, architect, consultant, and curator, the idea of sanctuary is both personal and professional. His broad experience curating artwork for private and public spaces informed his approach as juror, where he selected works that both demonstrate technical mastery and push boundaries beyond cliché.
