For Eclipse, WAAM partnered with art teacher Roberta Ziemba and her students from Bennett Elementary to create works on paper inspired by the museum’s collection. Students studied two collographic prints—Eclipse (1978) by Franklin Alexander and Straws in the Wind (c. 1945) by Lisbeth Kohl—exploring printmaking techniques, layering, and composition.
Both works reflect a long tradition of experimental printmaking, a practice WAAM has supported through its Annual Print program since 1948. Alexander’s Eclipse was selected as a WAAM Annual Print. In responding to these works, students engaged with printmaking as an evolving art form, connecting their own creativity to the history of the medium.
