Portraits: Known and Unknown Faces, Face the World

November 29 – December 29, 2019

Public Reception: Friday, December 6, 4-7 PM

YES GALLERY

This Fall, Bennett’s 4th, 5th and 6th graders created art inspired by the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum collection and the life and work of artist Peggy Bacon. The students created charcoal portraits for this school-wide show. 4th grade students made portraits of people from their community, 5th grade students made self portraits and 6th grade students made portraits of renowned and celebrated people.

Collaborating with art teacher Roberta Ziemba, WAAM Education Curator Beth Humphrey worked with all Bennett students exploring works created by Peggy Bacon during the Great Depression to learn drawing techniques.

Art for Education at WAAM

Education Curator Beth Humphrey works with over 500 students annually across 9 area schools, collaborating with teachers to create innovative and relevant arts-in-education programming. WAAM provides free in-school residencies, annual field trips and fun, hands-on activities. The artwork that students make during these WAAM programs can viewed throughout the year in the Youth Exhibition Space ( YES) Gallery.
